Automotive suppliers rely on durable, error-free processes – in particular in the field of procurement logistics. Smooth just-in-time and just-in-sequence procurement can only be realised, if data is exchanged smoothly between the buyer and the supplier, which is why various components need to be fitted into the right sequence and position on the assembly line. IT-dependency is high. If errors occur, these need to be identified quickly and remedied. This is not an easy task, if 6000 systems are sounding alarms and issue error logs with hundreds of entries!
Beck et al. installed around 20 monitoring tools at the automotive supplier’s company. Each team was equipped with specific tools – ranging from the network departments, through the employees responsible for the server up to and including the logistics experts. The idea behind it: many errors are connected and, in the event of e.g. a sever failure, they can be traced to one of the worldwide branches or to a faulty network line. The tools now deliver data to an alarm bus that consolidates all alarm messages from all systems thereby facilitating fast identification of the error.
The IT solutions check the systems for errors at regular short intervals based on more than 20 000 parameters. In case of IT problems, the monitoring tools find the cause and deliver the corresponding information and solution proposals. Summary: Error identification is accelerated and the company can react quickly to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
